French Bulldogs are entertaining and comical in nature. If you identify yourself with such adjectives then French bulldog is the best choice for you. So, okay, you go ahead and adopt the same. But, having a dog is a responsibility and you should do it only if you are completely ready for it.
Like any other animals, dogs also gradually develop health issues over time. As an owner, it is your responsibility to take care of your pet. There are various health issues related to French bulldogs. This, however, is not a matter of concern because French bulldogs are generally a healthy breed and taking good care of your pet, you can get rid of any health issues for your dog. However, as an owner, you should be very well rehearsed in identifying different health issues a French bulldog can develop. This is the very reason why I am writing this today, to help you prepare for the worst. I will be discussing some common health issues with French bulldogs so you can take preventive measures if your dog has the same symptoms. So, let’s get started.
1. Cherry eyes
Cherry eyes is a disorder of the Nictitating Membrane which is also called the Third Eyelid. This usually happens in dogs who are less than two years old. Normally, in this case, the gland everts without any detachment. This causes the gland to prolapse and it protrudes from the eyes as a red mass. The usual treatment for this is surgery which is very safe and painless.
2. Skin issues
Many dogs, French bulldogs included, develop many diseases of the skin. This can happen on any part of the skin, skin of ears included. However, this issue is fairly common in dogs. You can ask this from any dog owner and they will concur. The solution to this issue is fairly simple too. Many ointments work magic for such issues. Moreover, hygiene also plays an important part in the solution.
3. IVDD
IVDD or Intervertebral disk disease is most common with dogs. In this issue, the dog can undergo a lot of pain or complete paralysis in worst cases. This disease is caused by a deformed spine. If you spot any kind of discomfort in your French bulldog, this can be an early indication of IVDD. In this case, you should take your pet to the vet as soon as possible. If you spot the disease early on, there are good chances of recovery.
French Bulldogs are usually healthy breeds and you do not have to take much stress about it. However, as an owner, it is your duty to take good care of your pet and make his life as comfortable as possible as he tries to make yours.
